(A look on the alchemical elements in German literature at the end of the 18^th century and in the beginning 19^th century)

Summary

 

The text investigate the problem of the alchemical cognition in Germany and its popularity during the last years of the 18^th century and in the beginning 19^th century. It studies the relation between the alchemy and the literature at this stage. In particular the attention is drawn to an interesting heretic’s “dialogue” between two works – “The Tale about the Green Snake and the Beautiful Lily” by Goethe and “The Golden Pot” by E. T. A. Hoffmann.

The alchemical symbol and signs looked up too in the works of others German authors – Novalis and brothers Schlegel.
